Jason Altmire
Jason Altmire literally wrote the book on breaking through polarization in Washington, D.C. A centrist widely respected on both sides of the aisle, he offers a balanced perspective on the current state of American politics. He speaks from experience in advising how your group can make the most of your legislative visit and most effectively influence elected officials.
During his three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Jason Altmire won praise as a centrist known for working with both sides of the aisle. The nonpartisan National Journal calculated his voting record to be at the exact midpoint of the House—the “dead center.” His extraordinary record of legislative success and his reputation for bipartisan collaboration have made him a popular guest on many national news programs. He is a member of the U.S. State Department’s speaker exchange program, through which American executives represent the country at official overseas engagements.
As author of the critically acclaimed book Dead Center: How Political Polarization Divided Americaand What We Can Do About It, Altmire explains the nation’s growing polarization and offers pragmatic solutions for organizations to prosper in the current political environment.
Among his many achievements: seeing 29 of his legislative initiatives signed into law and introducing a bipartisan bill that gained more co-sponsors than any Congressional bill in American history.
Currently, Dr. Altmire is President and CEO of Career Education Colleges and Universities, the national trade association representing private career schools. He is also an adjunct professor of healthcare management at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He co-chairs the advisory board of the Center for Effective Lawmaking at the University of Virginia and serves on advisory boards for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, Unite America, and the Washington Political Film Foundation. Previously, he was Co-Chair of the 2019 National Commission on Political Civility and Effective Governance.
He earned his doctorate in business administration from the University of Florida, his masters in health administration from George Washington University, and his bachelors degree in political science from Florida State University, where he was a walk-on member of the school’s first Sugar Bowl championship football team.
