The Power of Meetings
April 01, 2009The professional meetings industry is under attack on many fronts. Many organizations have cut back on meeting expenditures due to declining attendance and revenues, but even more alarming is the political backlash the meetings industry is facing because of a few ill-advised and well-publicized meetings held by firms that received federal TARP funds.
Those of us in the industry all know the real value of meetings. From face-to-face interaction with our colleagues to educational and networking opportunities, meetings are at the core of America’s business. As speaker and economist Ben Stein recently wrote in the New York Times, “Meetings are not the enemy. In terms of making the nation more productive and better off, they are builders, not saboteurs.”
